We have five core Ministry Teams and you are welcome to join one at any time. They are: worship, congregational care, hospitality and engagement, faith formation and justice. Learn more about our teams on the “How We Work” page.
Here are some other ways you can join us in building community and caring for our neighbors. Please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how to join these activities.
CES food shelf
Join us at 9a on the third Saturday of each month at Community Emergency Service food shelf, located at 1900 11th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404. Volunteers “shop” and pack groceries for residents at the nearby St. Paul’s residence, then deliver the groceries to the residence. This longtime partnership has fostered meaningful relationships between First Church and St. Paul’s.
Every Monday and Tuesday afternoon hundreds of healthy, fresh meals are cooked and packaged in the First Church kitchen and then delivered to people in need throughout Minneapolis, including homeless shelters and encampments. Sign up here for a community kitchen shift. Volunteers also come in on Monday and Tuesday early evenings to clean up the kitchen.
These gatherings generally take place at noon on the third Wednesday of the month either on Zoom or in person. Anyone who considers themselves an elder is welcome to join!
Faith on Tap
Meets monthly in person discuss matters of faith — or any other topic that comes to mind. These conversations are fun and wide-ranging and absolutely all are welcome, no matter what you believe! Note: this group is on hiatus until May 2022.
Meets monthly in person or on Zoom. No knowledge of knitting—or any other craft—is necessary!
For more than ten years First Church has been partnering with this transitional housing residence in St. Paul. Pre-pandemic, we have been preparing and sharing dinners on the last Sunday of each month—when food stamps balances are low. Until we can meet in person, we have been collecting funds to provide $10 Cub foods gift cards to each family in the residence.
Little Free Pantry
At the start of the pandemic, we transformed our Little Free Library into a small food pantry. We encourage you to bring nonperishable, easy to access items to the church for us to stock — or feel free to stop by the pantry and stock it yourself. We also encourage you to donate funds for staff to stock the pantry. This pantry is very popular — each night it is filled and each morning it is emptied.
Marcy School Meals
We partner with Every Meal to provide weekend meals for the families of students at Marcy Arts Magnet Elementary School.
Meals on Wheels drivers
We partner with EastSide Meals on Wheels by providing drivers to deliver meals in Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis.
Before the pandemic, the playgroup met on Monday mornings from 9:30-noon. All families with children infant–age 5 and their siblings are welcome to join! There is story time, snack time, opportunities for parents to interact, and lots of room to play. We will resume meetings of the Playgroup when it is safe to do so.
