Get Involved in the Community

We have five core Ministry Teams and you are welcome to join one at any time. They are: worship, congregational care, hospitality and engagement, faith formation and justice.

Here are some other ways you can join us in building community and caring for our neighbors. Please contact the church office at [email protected] to find out how to join a ministry team or one of these activities.

CES food shelf

Join us at 9a on the third Saturday of each month at Community Emergency Service food shelf, located at 1900 11th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404. Volunteers “shop” and pack groceries for residents at the nearby St. Paul’s residence, then deliver the groceries to the residence. This longtime partnership has fostered meaningful relationships between First Church and St. Paul’s.

Community Kitchen

Every Monday and Tuesday afternoon hundreds of healthy, fresh meals are cooked and packaged in the First Church kitchen and then delivered to people in need throughout Minneapolis, including homeless shelters and encampments. Sign up here for a community kitchen shift. Volunteers also come in on Monday and Tuesday early evenings to clean up the kitchen.

Choir

We welcome singers of all voice parts and abilities, 13 years and older, to join our choir. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings, 7-9p and the choir sings most Sundays during worship.

Elder Lunches

These gatherings generally take place at noon on the third Wednesday of the month either on Zoom or in person. Anyone who considers themselves an elder is welcome to join!

Faith on Tap

Meets monthly on Zoom to discuss matters of faith — or any other topic that comes to mind. These conversations are fun and wide-ranging and absolutely all are welcome, no matter what you believe!

Family Gatherings

Once a month families (infant–elementary-aged kids and parents or grandparents) are invited to gather in the downstairs playroom after the service, at 11a. We share a Bible story and learning activity and also have plenty of time for play and relationship building. We request that folks wear masks during these gatherings.

Knitting Group

Meets monthly in person or on Zoom. No knowledge of knitting—or any other craft—is necessary!

Marcy School Meals

We partner with Every Meal to provide weekend meals for the families of students at Marcy Arts Magnet Elementary School.

Little Free Pantry

At the start of the pandemic, we transformed our Little Free Library into a small food pantry. We encourage you to bring nonperishable, easy to access items to the church for us to stock — or feel free to stop by the pantry and stock it yourself. We also encourage you to donate funds for staff to stock the pantry. This pantry is very popular — each night it is filled and each morning it is emptied.

Meals on Wheels Drivers

We partner with EastSide Meals on Wheels by providing drivers to deliver meals in Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis.

Southeast Playgroup

The playgroup meet on Monday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-noon. All families with children infant–age 5 and their siblings are welcome to join! There is story time, snack time, opportunities for parents to interact, and lots of room to play.
